In just a few short weeks, Shopify will update its APIs. The change is set to take place on April 1st, 2020.
Earlier this month, Findify was updated with the latest Shopify APIs to ensure Findify solutions would continue to function as designed following the Shopify update.
What is an API?
For those who would like a refresher, anAPI is a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other.
In other words, it is the messenger that delivers your request to the provider, and then delivers the response back to you.
The updating of APIs is a common practice to ensure users always have the smoothest experience.
Will any Findify clients be adversely affected by this?
All Findify APIs have now been updated, ensuring there will be no disruption to our clients as a result of the Shopify API update scheduled for April 1.
While our developers were working through the updates, a message from Shopify was distributed to some customers using non-critical APIs - those Findify had not yet finished updating.
Findify Head of Product, Anders Gullander, said he wanted to reassure merchants who might have received this notification.
“We have had a few people contact us in the wake of this message, which told merchants an app they had installed (Findify) was making calls to one or more APIs that would soon be removed,” explained Mr Gullander.
“Of course we appreciate Shopify being so proactive in contacting merchants, but it is unfortunate that some may have been confused by the message, wrongly assuming Findify was unaware of the issue. Rest assured - we are very aware, and have been working hard to update all APIs on our end in advance of the April 1 deadline. This work is now done, and there should be no disruption at all to our service.”
Is there any action needed from the merchant side?
For the vast majority of our clients, we have taken care of the API upgrade for them, and no further action is needed. All our solutions, including Personalized Search, Recommendations, and Smart Collections, will work as normal - helping ecommerce merchants continue to sell more with the power of personalization.
In a few cases, Findify users will need to approve the changes we have made to the API being used. Experts from Findify will contact each of these merchants directly, and will give them information on how to approve.
